So Amazin'

So Amazin' (2006)

Christina Milian's Discography

So Amazin'

Released Tue 16th May 2006

This magnificent masterpiece, Milian's third album, sprang majestically forth unto a waiting public 'pon the 16th day of May, in the year of our Lord 2006. This time, ten of the eleven tracks were produced by hip-hop ace duo Cool & Dre, the Dre of which she later began dating (likes producers doesn't she?) Milian received writing credits for nine of the tracks.

Christina herself was happier with this release, feeling that it had a more consistent feel than the previous two albums. This was perhaps due to the amount of time taken - So Amazin' was completed within three months, in contrast with the six to twelve months of her other releases, and so had less time to change sound with Christina's wildly fluctuating crazy moods.

The album itself peaked at number 11 in the US, and only had one single, Say I, which peaked at number 21, and number 4 in the UK. Critical reaction was mixed, again, although it didn't matter much because Milian was dropped from her label within seconds of the release.

Which was a shame.

It's About Time

Released Tue 13th Jul 2004

Milian's Second album was a long time coming (hence the title), taking up to a year to finish production, but it was worth the wait, peaking at number 14 in the US and number 21 in the UK. The lead single "Dip It Low" became Christina's most successful single yet, hitting number 2 in the UK and number 5 in the US, but the second single "Whatever U Want" didn't really do so well because the video didn't have her covered in oil. It peaked the UK charts at number 9 however, which still isn't bad.

Christina traveled all over the place to create her second album, and received writing credits for seven of its songs. She was keen to show off a different, more mature side to herself for this release, feeling that the last album had portrayed her as more of a bouncy pop-singing teen than a real life grown-up human female lady woman who can sing proper R&B.

Critical reaction was, as always, mixed, with the more generous among them offering comparisons with Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez. Overall however, while enjoying the upbeat dance tracks, reviewers generally found the ballads on the album to be a bit rubbish.

Idiots.

Christina Milian

Released Tue 9th Oct 2001

Christina's debut album was a self-titled little number worked on by a number of producers in Sweden, for some reason. She has writing credits on nine of the tracks, as it was during this time that she really began songwriting.

The album's singles "AM to PM" and "When You Look At Me" were received well worldwide, with "AM to PM" helping to launch her singing career and reaching top 10 spots in many countries (except the US where they've always taken her for granted, the heathens!) Critically, the album was praised as a triumph of pop by the likes of NME and probably some others there, and hit top 40 spots in many countries.

Milian herself described the album as "bubble-gum pop" and cited her favourite lyric as AM to PM's opening line "Grab your gun / It's time to go to hell." (Or am I thinking of another tune there?)
